models 401 and 405

The 400 Series splicers became well known in the textile industry, having a basic design philosophy which represented progressive development and improvement from the original 200 series of the mid-1970s.

The 400 series splicers had attributes which were proved in factories across the world:
  • Rugged construction
  • Quick to operate
  • Wide range of applications
  • Large capacity cutting knives
The Model 401, illustrated, was the splicer of the series whose design was optimised for fairly small yarns, up to 3000 dtex, Nm 3.3.
The splicer was generally used for continuous filament yarns (including P.O.Y.), woollen spun carpet yarns, and semi-worsted spun yarns.   For the P.O.Y. application, a polished upper section was supplied, to minimise the effects of filamentation.

The Model 405 was essentially identical to the 401, except that its knives were more widely spaced, (32.5 mm compared to 30.0 mm).   It was optimised for heavier yarns, from 2000 to 15000 dtex, Nm 0.6.
Although the 500 Series is no longer manufactured, it is still supported in part by a degree of after-sales service.   The body can no longer be supplied as a spare part, but most of the small components remain available, either from stock, or to special order.
Since 2003, the 400 series has been superseded by the 1-11 Series.   The 1-11 range, consisting of 18 variants, is simpler to operate than the 400 Series, has a simpler and more durable construction, and handles a wider range of yarns.
