model 403

The Model 403 was a modified form of the 400 Series splicers, illustrated.   Like the Model 209, the splicer had the general appearance of a 400 series tool, but had no cutting knives.   The 403 had a large single-profile splicing chamber, and was capable of making splices in yarns and rovings of up to 3000 tex.

Yarns of this size could not be cut reliably, and the splicer was therefore supplied without knives; the finished splice was hand-trimmed by the operator.
The Model 403, like the Model 209, has now been supplanted by the Model 110.   The Model 110 is easier to operate than the 403, has a simpler and more durable construction, and handles a wider range of yarns.
