model 209
The Model 209 was a modified form of the 400 Series splicers, illustrated. Like the Model 403, the splicer had the general appearance of a 400 series tool, but had no cutting knives. The principal difference between the 209 and the 403 was that the 209 had a very large double-profile splicing chamber, and was capable of making splices in yarns and rovings of up to 5000 tex.The splicer was able to handle such large yarns by splitting them into two parts, and by placing the halves into the compound splicing chamber. The double splice operation was not easy to master, and some operator training was always required if the splicer was to be used efficiently. Once mastered, however, the technique became effective, and some customers eventually used quadruple splicing chambers.
The Model 209 has now been supplanted by the Model 110. The Model 110 is simpler to operate than the 209, has a simpler and more durable construction, and handles a wider range of yarns.
