104 Series
The 103 Series splicers have proved very effective, particularly in the carpet yarn sector. The splicer contains design features which make it very flexible in operation, largely eliminating operator-sensitivity. However, despite its flexibility, the 103 is limited to carpet yarns of count around Nm 0.7; anything larger, and splicing performance deteriorates. During 2007/8, our company was challenged by the need to splice higher-count yarns, and also synthetic yarns with very thick filaments.
| The Model 104 is the outcome of a programme of research on splicing such difficult yarns. The splicer can join carpet yarns of about Nm 0.3, and continuous-filament synthetics with very stiff filaments - typically 200 d.p.f. |

Like the 101 and 103 Series splicers, the 104 makes a joint of the “ends-together” form. This type of splice does not have as good an appearance as a splice of the “ends-opposed” form. “Tails” are visible in each joint. However, the splice is much quicker to make, and is usually completely satisfactory for carpet processes, such as tufting, Wilton and Axminster weaving. |
The 104, having been developed from the 103, is similar in form and function, and the splice is made using the same procedures. As with the 103, several splicer forms are available. All of the Model 104 series of splicers have a modular construction. Each has a common base unit. Parts are added to the base unit, to make up the complete splicer assembly as needed. Should it be necessary, the user may take advantage of this modular design, and can convert one form of 104 splicer into another in a few minutes.
The 104 family consists of six models:

The splicers contain some new and patented technology, and need a smaller range of splicing chambers than splicers of earlier generations. Unlike many competitors, the splicer can join S-twist or Z-twist yarns without any modification; it can even splice S-twist and Z-twist together or can splice flat yarn to high-twist such as tyre cord.
