103 series
For some years, we have made the Model 101 splicer which is a very simple but powerful product, designed for the carpet business.. The 101 has some new features which make it unusually powerful, and economical in use. However, the Model 101 has a very simple manual cutting system, and some users expressed a wish for automatic cutters.

The Model 103 is the outcome of work undertaken to meet this customer need. The result is a splicer which is vastly more flexible than its predecessors, the old-style 400 and 500 series, and rather more subtle in its operation than the Model 101. |

Like the Model 101, 103 Series splicers make a joint of the “ends-together” form. This type of splice does not have as good an appearance as a splice of the “ends-opposed” form. “Tails” are visible in each joint. However, the splice is much quicker to make, and is usually completely satisfactory for carpet processes, such as tufting, Wilton and Axminster weaving. |
All of the Model 103 series of splicers have a modular construction. Each has a common base unit. Parts are added to the base unit, to make up the complete splicer assembly as needed. Should it be necessary, the user may take advantage of this modular design, and can convert one form of 103 splicer into another in a few minutes.
The splice is made in three stages:

Take both yarns together, and place them through the splicer body. |

Align the yarns so that they pass through the integral cutter blades. Press the trigger. |

All 103 splicers have a simple straight-line string-up.
All 103 splicers have an unusually simple and strong construction; it resists damage in service better than most splicers on the market. Simple construction leads to simple maintenance; the splicer in its basic form can be completely dismantled and re-assembled in about twenty minutes.
The splicers contain some new and patented technology, and need a smaller range of splicing chambers than splicers of earlier generations. Unlike many competitors, the splicer can join S-twist or Z-twist yarns without any modification; it can even splice S-twist and Z-twist together or can splice flat yarn to high-twist such as tyre cord.
The 103 family consists of twelve models:
