Flexible ends-together splicers
An ends-together splicer which makes joints with smaller "tails" than the 101. Like the Model 101, the Model 102 is a simple splicer for non-critical applications, where "ends-together" splice appearance is not important. The 102 is directly derived from the 101, and is almost identical to that product; however, it makes splices with shorter "tails", which can occasionally be useful in applications such as weft-knitting.
The essential structural difference between the Model 102 splicer and the Model 101 lies in the design of the knife assembly. The length of "tail" in an ends-together splicer is largely determined by the total distance between the blast hole and the knife. The tail length can be altered by setting the knife closer to, or further from, the splicing chamber.
The knife on the 102 can be set 4mm closer to the splicing chamber than the knife on a 101. The tail is therefore 4 mm shorter. A price may be paid for this shortening of the tail; with some spun yarns of loose construction, the shorter tail may prove to be weak. Users should request technical advice about how to make a choice between Model 101 and Model 101 splicers.
As with the 101, the 102 has been designed with durability and simple servicing in mind. The splicer has a very simple body structure, which is small and light. It has a very simple knife arrangement - just throw away the worn knife and fit a low-cost new one.
The 102 has the same patented splicing chamber technology as the 101. It can make joints in a wide range of yarns on a single splicing chamber - high twist, low twist, S twist, Z twist, fine count, heavy count. In general, the 102 offers the operator the capacity to work on a full range of yarn types without changing chambers. Great attention has been paid to rugged construction. The splicer is machined out of a solid block of alloy. Its yarn guide plates are much stronger than is necessary for their function as guides; the thick stainless steel plates give the splicer a strong box-like structure.
The Model 102 is a range of six closely related splicers. All models use a common basic body. Models differ only in the length of the handle, and in the accessories fitted to the splicer.

The splicers make a joint of the “ends-together” form. This type of splice does not have as good an appearance as a splice of the “ends-opposed” form. “Tails” are visible in each joint. However, the splice is much quicker to make, and is usually completely satisfactory for carpet processes, such as tufting, Wilton and Axminster weaving. It can be seen that the tails in this photograph have a very loose structure; they disappear easily into a woven or tufted fabric. |
The splice is made in three stages:

Take both yarns together, and place them through the splicer body. |

Bring the yarns down across the cutting blade, to trim off the waste ends, and press the trigger. |

- 102 splicers have a simple straight-line string-up.
- All 102 splicers have an unusually simple and strong construction; it resists damage in service better than most splicers on the market. Simple construction leads to simple maintenance; the splicer in its basic form can be completely dismantled and re-assembled in about ten minutes.
- The splicers contain some new and patented technology, and need a smaller range of splicing chambers than splicers of earlier generations. Unlike its competitors, the splicer can join S-twist or Z-twist yarns without any modification; it can even splice S-twist and Z-twist together, or can splice flat yarn to high-twist such as tyre cord.
102 Series splicers are available in six forms:
