Yarns have always been joined by using knots, but knots are unsatisfactory - variable in quality, and bulky. Pneumatic yarn splicers, first introduced in the 1970s, join yarns in a better way, and they enable textile processors to reduce waste and save cost. GTW Developments is a UK company which supplies the splicer market world-wide, under the brand name "Pentwyn Splicers". GTW is strong in research and development, devoting about 60 per cent of all its available man-hours to developing new and improved products. When bringing new products to market, we have retained certain core values. Specifically, we seek to become respected for technical innovation of the highest quality. Further, we aspire to maintain Pentwyn’s established reputation as manufacturers of high-quality, reliable and durable products. Finally, we strive to maintain the highest standards of customer service. With these aims in mind, in recent years we have improved the technology of the splicing process, the engineering of the products, and the ergonomics of the designs.
Composites
Splicers are needed for yarns used in new, high-tech composite materials. Engineered materials using composites will be lighter and stronger than hitherto, with reduced carbon footprints. The materials used in these applications - particularly glass and carbon fibres - are difficult to splice, and no splicer manufacturer has managed to splice such materials reliably and efficiently. GTW Developments has now succeeded where many others have failed. Since 2007, we have been bringing unique new products to market, tailored to the needs of these demanding new products. NEWS: We are now offering a simple modification to the Model 1-11 Series splicers, for reliable splicing of POY over a very wide range of yarn counts on a single splicing chamber.
